Pauline Bonaparte was the sister of Napoleon Bonaparte and she married Prince Camillo Borghese. This bust is from a full-size sculpture, "Pauline Bonaparte as 'Venus Victrix,' which Camillo commissioned. In the sculpture, Pauline is lounging and wears only a sheet around her waist. The apple she holds recalls the myth of the Judgement of Paris, in which Venus was chosen as the most beautiful among three goddesses.
